बालकांड
एकोन सप्ततितम स्सर्गः

ततो रात्र्यां व्यतीतायां सोपाध्यायस्सबांधवः ।
राजा दशरथो हृष्टः सुमंत्रं इदमब्रवीत् ॥

स॥ ततः व्यतीतायां रात्र्यां हृष्ठः राजा दशरथः स उपाध्यायबांधवः सुमंतं इदं अब्रवीत् ।

Then with the passage of the night the delighted Dasaratha got together with his teachers and relatives and spoke to Sumanta as follows.

अद्यसर्वे धनाध्यक्षाः धनमादाय पुष्कलम् ।
व्रजं त्वग्रे सुविहिता नानारत्नसमन्विताः ॥
चतुरंग बलं चापि शीघ्रं निर्यातुसर्वशः ।
ममाज्ञासमकालं च यान युग्यं अनुत्तमम् ॥

स॥ आद्य सर्वे धनाध्यक्षाः पुष्कलम् धनं आदाय वज्रं त्वग्रे सुविहिता नानारत्न समन्विताः सर्वशः निर्यातु इति मम आज्ञा। समकालं चतुरंग बलं च यानयुग्यं अनुत्तमम् च शीघ्रं ( निर्यातुम् इति )।

"The head of the treasury may take ample money , precious stones and jewels and move ahead. The four fold forces too move along with variety of vehicles".

वसिष्ठो वामदेवश्च जाबालिरथ काश्यपः ।
मार्कंडेय स्सुदीर्घायु ऋषिः कात्यायनस्तथा ॥
एते द्विजाः प्रयां त्वग्रे स्यंदनं योजयस्व मे ।
यथा कालात्ययो न स्यात् दूता त्वरयंति माम् ॥

स॥ एते द्विजाः वसिष्ठः वामदेवश्च जाबालिः काश्यपः सुदीर्घायुः मार्कंडेयः च तथा कात्यायनः अग्रे स्यंदनं योजयस्व । दूताः मां त्वरयन्ति यथा कालात्ययौ न् स्यात् ।

"The Brahmins Vasishta Vamadeva , Jabali, Kasyapa , Markandeya with long life and similarly Katyayana should move ahead. The Janaka's messengers are saying that we should not lose time and are hurrying me".

वचनात्तु नरेंद्रस्य सा सेना चतुरंगिणी ।
राजानम् ऋषिभिस्सार्थं व्रजंतं पृष्ठतोs न्वगात् ॥

स॥ नरेन्द्रस्य वचनात् सा चतुरंगिणी सेना राजानम् ऋषुभिः सार्थं पृष्ठतो अन्वगात् ॥

With those words of the king, the army with four fold forces followed him along along with Rishis.

गत्वा चतुरहं मार्गं विदेहानभ्युपेयवान् ।
राजातु जनक श्श्रीमान् श्रुत्वा पूजामकल्पयत् ॥

स॥ मार्गं चतुरहं गत्वा विदेहान् अभ्युपेयवान् । श्रीमान् जनकः श्रुत्वा राजा पूजाम् अकल्पयत् तु ॥

Having travelled for four days they reached the city of Videha. Janaka , who is celebrated with many qualities learning that the king ( Dasaratha) is coming went ahead to receive and worship him.

ततो राजानमासाद्य वृद्धं दशरथं नृपम्।
जनक मुदितो राजा हर्षं च परमं ययौ ॥

स॥ ततः वृद्धं दशरथं नृपम् आसाद्य मुदितः राजा जनकः परमं हर्षं ययौ ॥

Then the delighted Janaka came ahead to received the old King Dasaratha and announced his delight.

उवाच नरश्रेष्ठो नरश्रेष्ठं मुदान्वितः ।
स्वागतं ते महाराज दिष्ट्याप्राप्तोs सि राघव ॥
पुत्त्रयोरुभयोः प्रीतिं लप्स्यसे वीर्य निर्जिताम् ॥।

स॥ मुदान्वितः नरश्रेष्ठः ( जनकः) नरश्रेष्ठं( दशरथं) उवाच । महराज! स्वागतं ते । दिष्ट्या प्राप्तोsसि।हे राघव वीर्य निर्जिताम् पुत्रयोः उभयोः प्रीतिं लप्स्यसे ॥

The delighted Janaka , who is best of men spoke to the best of men ( Dasaratha) . " Maharaja ! Welcome to you. I am fortunate. Oh Raghava ! Share the delight of your two sons who with their valor won the reward."

दिष्ट्या प्राप्तो महातेजा वसिष्ठो भगवान् ऋषिः ।
सह सर्वैर्द्विजश्रेष्ठैः देवैरिव शतक्रतुः ॥

स॥ महातेजा भगवान् ऋषिः वसिष्ठो सर्वैः द्विजश्रेष्ठैः सह शतक्रतुः दैवैः इव दिष्ठ्या प्राप्तो ( असि) ॥

" The arrival of most radiant and venerable sage Vasishta along with the best of Brahmins is also our fortune".

दिष्ट्या मे निर्जिता विघ्ना दिष्ट्या मे पूजितं कुलं ।
राघवै स्सह संबंधात् वीर्यश्रेष्ठैर्महात्मभिः ॥

स॥ वीर्य श्रेष्टैः महात्मभिः राघवैः सह संबंधात् दिष्ट्या मे निर्जिता विघ्ना । ममकुलं पूजितं ॥

"Our fortunate bond with Raghus the best of warriors and great ones resulted in all the obstacles moving away. We are honoured".

श्वः प्रभाते नरेंद्रेंद्र निर्वर्तयितुमर्हसि ।
यज्ञास्यांते नरश्रेष्ठ विवाहं ऋषि सम्मितम् ॥

स॥ स्वः प्रभाते यज्ञस्य अन्ते ऋषि सम्मितं नरश्रेष्ठ विवाहं निर्वर्तयितु मर्हसि ॥

"Tomorrow morning after the completion of the sacrifice it is appropriate to conduct the marriage of the best of men".

तस्य तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा ऋषिमध्ये नराधिपः ।
वाक्यं वाक्यविदां श्रेष्ठः प्रत्युवाच महीपतिम् ॥

स॥ ऋषि मध्ये तस्य तद् वचनं श्रुत्वा वाक्यविदां श्रेष्ठः नराधिपः महीपतिं वाक्यं प्रत्युवाच ॥

Hearing those words in the midst of all Rishis , the King( Dasaratha) who is adept with words said as follows.

प्रतिग्रहो दातृवशः श्रुतमे तन्मया पुरा ।
यथा वक्ष्यसि धर्मज्ञ तत्करिष्यामहे वयम् ॥

स॥ पुरा मया प्रतिग्रहो दातृवशः इति मे श्रुत । हे धर्मज्ञ ! वयं तत् यथावक्ष्यसि तत् करिष्यामहे |

"In the olden days I heard that the receiver is under the control of the giver. Oh best of men I will do what ever you say".

धर्मिष्टं च यशस्यं च वचनं सत्यवादिनः ।
श्रुत्वा विदेहपतिः परं विस्मयमागतः ॥

स॥ सत्यवादिनः धर्मिष्टं यशस्यं च वचनं श्रुत्वा विदेहपतिः परं विस्मयं आगतः॥

Hearing those words of the truthful and righteous King ( Dasaratha), the ruler of Mithila was (pleasantly ) surprised.

ततस्सर्वे मुनिगणाः परस्पर समागमे ।
हर्षेण महता युक्ताः तां निशामवसन् सुखम्॥

स॥ ततः सर्वे मुनिगणाः परस्पर समागमे महता हर्षेण युक्ताः । तां निशां सुखं अवसन् ॥

Then the legions of Rishis ( from both sides) met with each other and spent the night joyfully.

अथ रामो महातेजा लक्ष्मणेन समं ययौ ।
विश्वामित्रं पुरस्कृत्य पितुः पादावुपस्पृशन्॥

स॥ अथ महातेजा रामः विश्वामित्रं पुरस्कृत्य लक्ष्मणेन समं पितुः पादा उपस्पृशन् ययौ ।

Then great Rama following Viswamitra along with Lakshmana touched the feet of his father.

राजा च राघवौ पुत्त्रौ निशाम्य परिहर्षितः ।
उवास परमप्रीतो जनकेन सुपूजितः ॥

स॥ जनकेन सुपूजितः राजा च पुत्रौ राघवौ निशम्य परिहर्षितः उवास ।

Dasaratha too having been well worshipped by Janaka , saw his two sons and spent the night happily.

जनकोs पि महातेजाः क्रियां धर्मेण तत्त्ववित् ।
यज्ञस्य च सुताभ्यां च कृत्वा रात्रिमुवासह॥

स॥ महातेजः जनकः अपि यज्ञस्य क्रियां धर्मेण तत्ववित् सुताभ्यां च (क्रियां) कृत्वा रात्रिं उवास ह ॥

The highly radiant Janaka performed his sacrifice following all rituals and also completed rituals for marriage of his daughters.

इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीये आदिकाव्ये बालकांडे एकोन सप्ततितम स्सर्गः ॥
समाप्तं॥

Thus ends the sixty ninth chapter of Balakanda in Valmiki Ramayan
